Caribou – Zelma E. Merritt, 91, of Caribou, ME, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023 in Caribou.  She was born in 1931, the daughter of the late Burt J. and Lillian K. (Lunn) Kelley.  She was a graduate of Caribou High School and attended the Aroostook State Normal School, now known as the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Employed by several companies dealing with finance, such as Montgomery Ward, Zelma retired as a bookkeeper for Time Warner Cable Company in Caribou. Zelma was an active, life-time member of the Bessie Gray Memorial United Methodist Church where she devoted her time to the Finance Committee and the Jenny Lyons Circle.  Along with the love of her life, her late husband, Donald, she was a member of the Caribou Snowmobile Club and an amateur radio operator. Everyone who knew Zelma knew how much she loved cooking and baking, especially her family who would look forward to her holiday cookies every year. Zelma's love was a gift in which she shared with others in time spent with friends and family, supporting her church community, long scenic rides and being a devoted and wonderfully loving mother and grandmother.  She is survived by her children, Lori (Dr. Jeffrey Mazursky) Mazursky of Odenton, MD and Gary (Lynn) Merritt of Caribou, ME; her six grandchildren, Lindsey (Jon) Lukason, Kelley (Patrick Morgan) Chubb, Chelsea (Jeremy) Rubin, Michael Mazursky, Laurie (Thomas) Anthony, and Staci (Dr. Tom Gregson) Gregson; and her great-grandchildren Adele, Davis, Abigail, Eliza, Savannah, Zoe, Joey, Matthew, and Benjamin. Mrs. Merritt was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald, her brother and his wife, Gaylen and Glenice Kelley, and her granddaughter, Jessica Jack.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11 am, at the Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in her name to Bessie Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, 2 Prospect Street, Caribou, ME 04736.
