Wendy L. Cray

February 28, 1976 — March 10, 2012

CARIBOU - Wendy L. Cray, 36 died March 10, 2012 at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born at Caribou February 28, 1976 the daughter of William and Linda (Ouellette) Cray. Wendy was a 1993 graduate of Caribou High School and attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent. As a teen and young adult, Wendy accepted responsibilities in caring for her disabled parents while at the same time coping with her own physical challenges related to Freidreich’s Ataxia – a progressive neuro-muscular disease. As an adult, Wendy fought for her own independence, winning the battle and moving to Bangor in 2005 to live in her own lovely apartment. With the companionship of her cat, Oreo and the support of care providers and friends, Wendy was able to live out her dream of remaining independent to the end. To all who knew Wendy and the challenges she faced throughout her life, she will forever be remembered for her brave, sweet smile and animated personality. Never once heard to complain or to feel sorry for what she could not accomplish, Wendy would delight in any opportunity to report what she could do on her own, without having to ask for help. She was very appreciative of her many friends and support staff who helped her to remain optimally functional and independent. Wendy was a member of the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She is survived by her mother Linda Cray of Bangor; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her close friends Dick and JoAnne Bossie of Caribou and her great Aunt Dorothy Kade of St. Dearborn, MI. She was predeceased by her father William Cray Jr. and her grandparents Lewis and Georgia Ouellette. Graveside services will be held in the spring.
