Connor - Veronica G. Dube (Nikki), Veronica G. Cyr, 80, passed away on January 21st at Cary Medical Center in Caribou surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. She was born in Siegas, NB, Canada, July 10, 1940, the daughter of the late Noe and Aurore (Thibodeau) Cyr. Nikki was educated in the Catholic Schools and worked for several area businesses with the latest being in food service for the Caribou School Department.
On June 17, 1961 she married Harold J. Dube and together they shared 59 years of marriage. They are survived by their 4 children, Brenda Cote and husband Ronald, Jill Caron and husband Tim (all of Connor), Paula Pierce and her husband Kelley (Caribou) and Wayne Dube and wife Lori (Hermon). They also have 8 grandchildren Jesse Cote and his wife Jodi, Kelly Cote and his wife Chantalle, Ryan Dube and his wife Jessica, Nichole Dube and her fiancé Alex Wren, Hailey Caron and her friend Jake Whitten, Abbie Caron, Karley Allen and her husband Johnny, Lauren Pierce and her friend Tharen Hand. Nikki also has 11 great-grandchildren (Jacob, Joey, Sophia, Emelia, Grayson and Kayleigh Cote), (Emmett, Gavin and Mason Allen), (Alivia Dube) and (Landon Wren) Nikki was a hard worker, dedicated to her family and a devoted mom.
Nikki is survived by her siblings, Jean Paul Cyr, Andrea Cyr, Noella Ouellette, Hubert Cyr, Marie-Paul Fortugno, Gerald Cyr, Julie Jambard and Julien Cyr. She is predeceased by her husband Harold J. Dube, (who recently passed in November) her parents Noe and Aurore Cyr, brother, Hudore Cyr and sister, Mona Vienneau.
Her passion in life included doing anything that involved working with her hands. She was often called “MacGyver. She loved carpentry, sewing, designing and decorating beautiful wedding cakes and building bird houses. Her specialty was creating the most unique and beautiful paper mache snowman and she created and designed each piece with very delicate detail. She also enjoyed making many other arts and crafts and you may find one of her treasures in your home if you visited the local arts & craft fairs. (They were uniquely signed by “Nikki”).
The family sends special thanks to Cary Medical Center for helping us cope with mom’s illness and death during this horrible time of Covid. Special thanks to Dr. Djuanda, Dr. Boma, Michelle Williams and Linda Butler in Social Services, The Respiratory Dept. - Lisa Cote and Sharon Collins Madore, and the the hardworking staff in the ICU and ACU units at Cary Medical Center that has taken care of mom many times through her illness. They have all been right by our side. An additional thank you to Rita and Caroline from VNA for their special care and services shown to Nikki.
Due to COVID restrictions, private family services will be held at the Mockler Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, North Caribou in the Spring.
