Thomas "Tom" Olson, 77, passed away unexpectedly in Fargo, ND, at Sanford Hospital on Monday, May 26, 2025.
Tom worked at SAD #45 in Washburn for 42 1/2 years as a bus driver/custodian. Tom could be heard whistling or singing (very off key) while he worked or offering up a colorful joke to fellow employees. He retired in 2010, to spend time with his devoted and loving wife, touring casinos, hunting and fishing, and working on puzzles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Elizabeth "Bette" Ann Olson of Crouseville; daughters, Shannon (Dan) Olson of Fargo, ND, and Shelly Gresham of Pittston; three adored grandchildren, Cory Olsonand (Sarah) of Fargo, ND, Brandon Gresham of Pittston, and RaeAnn (Dawson) Sperr of Fargo, ND. He leaves behind five siblings, Dale Olson (Diane) of Anchorage, AK, Sheila (David) Bishop of Presque Isle, Mark Olson and fiancée, Penny Ellis, of Washburn, Sherrie (Mark) Carmichael of Mapleton, and Scott (Jennifer) Olson of Crouseville; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Diana Adamson of Caribou, ME; two brothers-in-law, David and Donny DeMechant of Caribou, ME; two aunts; and many cousins. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Herbert Gilbert Olson and Marie Cecile Olson.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at Crouseville Cemetery on August 31, 2025. In lieu of gifts or flowers, please send donations to the Washburn Public Library, as Tom was an avid reader.
