CARIBOU and WESTBROOK – Theresa G. Arey, 84, wife of the late Leon A. Arey, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 11, 2017 at a Caribou nursing facility following an extended illness. She was born May 3, 1932 in Westbrook, the daughter of Eli Andrew Gorrie and Flossie A. Holt, and was married to Leon Albert Arey on February 2, 1951. Theresa spent most of her life as a homemaker, worked in a variety store in Bangor, and at Cochran’s Hallmark store in Caribou. She was a past-president of the Caribou Lioness Club, and was a member of the Elks Club and the Eagles Club in Westbrook. She and Leon moved to Caribou in 1968, to start Aroostook County Electric Supply. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Leon in 1983. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Dorr of Garyville, LA, daughter, Lynn E. Arey of Sparks, NV, son, Steven J. Arey and his wife Dianne of Caribou, daughter, DeAnne J. Dennis of Hillsboro, OR, her nephew, Jeff Hale and wife Debbie of Lynnville, TN, grandchildren, Christie Betz, Patrick Dennis, Amanda Dennis, Brandon Arey, and Taylor Rose Arey, and seven great-grandchildren. Theresa’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Leisure Gardens, especially Brandi Saucier, for the care given to Theresa and the guidance for our family during her stay. At Theresa’s request, there will be no funeral service. A graveside service will be conducted at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook later in the spring at a date and time to be announced by the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou.
