Caribou – Shirley M. Brown, 87, died September 2, 2024 at Bangor following a brief illness. She was born in Wade on August 19, 1937 the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Doherty) White. She grew up on the White Family Farm on the Gardner Creek Road, and she attended Washburn Schools. She married Reginald “Brownie” Brown on January 19, 1955. Shirley was employed as a bus driver for the Aroostook Regional Transportation System, and was also a well-known AVON representative in the Caribou area for many years. She enjoyed collecting dolls and had an extensive collection, and her family was her whole life.
Shirley is survived by her son, Bruce Brown and wife Charlotte of Vassalboro, three grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Griffin, Alexis Deveau, and Ashley Batchelder, a step-grandson, Shane Hutchins, seven great-grandchildren, Madison Griffin, Spencer Mellish, Jazmyn Brown, Addison and Avery Deveau, and Logan and Reese Chechowitz, two sisters-in-law, Carol White of Crouseville, and Kathy White of Limestone, many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brown was predeceased by her husband in 2007, three infant sons, a grandson, Randy Brown, and ten siblings, Phyllis Day, Milford White, Bernard White, Malcolm White, Alden White, Geraldine Turnbull, Gwendolyn Drost, Eugene White, Maurice White, and William White.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 6PM until 8PM. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank-you to two special nurses at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bella and Jim.
