Norma J. (Daigle) Shaw

CARIBOU – Norma J. (Daigle) Shaw, 86, passed away January 29, 2019 at Caribou. She was born June 24, 1932 in Madawaska, the daughter of Antoine and Catherine (Daigle) Daigle. Norma graduated from Madawaska High School in 1950 and from Hotel Dieu Hospital Nursing School in 1953. From 1953 to 1967 she was employed at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Edmundston, NB as an RN. On September 30, 1967, Norma married John R. Shaw of Caribou and after their marriage lived in Caribou.

Norma was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church since 1967. Since 1980, Norma was a member of the Holy Rosary Sunday Choir, a member of the funeral choir from 1993 to 2013; a member of the Ladies of St Anne since 1975, serving as president from 1995 to 2000. She was a founding member of the Aroostook County Ladies of St. Anne, a member of the daughters of Isabella, and was active in prayer groups and the prayer line. In 1979 she made her Cursillo. Norma also traveled to Spain, Rome, Mexico, Jerusalem and Madigoria. On July 21, 2018 Norma was honored as the founder of Deanery #1 Ladies of St. Anne at a ceremony held at the St. Agatha Catholic Church. Norma could be best described as being warm, caring, compassionate and fun loving. Her life became a faith healing ministry through her prayers and compassionate care for her patients as a nurse. Later in life she developed a blessed shawl ministry, bringing comfort to those with physical and mental challenges.

Norma is survived by her husband, John R. Shaw of Caribou, a son, John M. Shaw, and his wife, Tina Marie of Saco, two grandchildren, Isaac Shaw and Jola Shaw of Saco, five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Norman Daigle and his wife Dorilda, Real Daigle and his wife Velma, Lionel Daigle and his wife Jacqueline, Lionide Daigle, and John Daigle, all of Madawaska. Norma is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Cecile Daigle, and a brother-in-law, C. Whitcomb Shaw.

Friends may call Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 6 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am, Friday February 1, 2019 from the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou. Following the services all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the parish center. Spring interment will be held in the Old Holy Rosary Cemetery.
