Caribou-Ruth E. Dumond 76, died August 14, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Caribou December 17, 1933 the daughter of the late Benjamin and Albertine (Sirois) Blanchette. She was a 1951 graduate of Caribou High School and was employed by TW McLaughlin Insurance for several years. She married MSG Elmer Dumond September 1, 1952. She was also employed for the Army Recruiting office at several locations. Ruth was a proud Army wife, was an “honorary” Army Recruiter and was a voice of America candidate. She was a Gold Star Sister and member of the Lister-Knowlton Post 9389 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Dumond was a longtime active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she served as secretary for both the Ladies of St. Anne and the Daughters of Isabella for many years. She was also a member of the Fred V. Brescia Council 1870 Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth was involved with many activities at Holy Rosary including serving as a lay Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, serving on the Worship and Spirituality Committee, the decorating committee, the Liturgical committee as well devoting many hours to church cleaning. She served as a Boy Scout Troop leader and was always active with the Class of 1951 reunion committee. Ruth was a loving, beautiful and supportive wife. She loved God, her family her country and life. She was kind and generous, always putting the needs of others first, She was a great Mother, grandmother, sister and friend.- Even her name, Ruth, means beautiful friend. Surviving in addition to her husband of over 57 years, Elmer of Caribou are three sons and daughters in law. Brian and Linda Dumond of Lakeview, MI., MSGT Bruce and SunAE Dumond of Mililani, HI., and Philip and Heike Dumond of Sanford, MI. Three daughters; Jana Dumond of Caribou, Paige Dumond and her spouse Loretta of Winslow and Victoria Dumond of Caribou. Two sisters: Iris McDonald of Caribou and Louann Rogers of Folsom, LA. A daughter in law Pat of Hinesville, GA. 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dumond was predeceased by her son Paul July 2010 and two brothers PFC Alberic Blanchette and Ludger Blanchette. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou 6-9 pm Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday August 19, 2010 from the Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Catholic Church Caribou.
