Roberta Sue Blackstone

March 2, 1957 — February 19, 2012

Roberta Sue (Thornton) Blackstone 54, wife of Murray Blackstone died after a brief illness at Bangor February 19, 2012 peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She was born at Presque Isle on March 2, 1957 the daughter of Philip and Bess (Green) Thornton. She graduated from Caribou High School, class of 1975. Shortly after graduation she married her high school sweetheart and started a family with Murray D. Blackstone. She loved gardening, fishing, crafting, cooking, and working on the farm and most of all her family. Her love of flowers earned her the Caribou Garden Club Beatification Award in 2000. This honor inspired her to open Farmhouse Greenhouse in 2005 fulfilling her lifelong dream. Her dedication to the family farm aided in proudly being named Maine Potato Board Farm Family of the year in 2003. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Surviving is her husband Murray D. Blackstone and her mother Bess both of Caribou, three children Murray Dan Blackstone and his wife Sheri, Jenny Sue Coon and her husband Matthew of Caribou and Bill Douglas Blackstone and his fiancé Laura McGlinn of Caribou. Two brothers John Thornton and his wife Karyn of Woodland and Robert Thornton of Ashland, one sister Cynthia Heron and her husband Jeffrey of Caribou. Four grandchildren, Sheridan Mae Blackstone, Brendan Dyer Blackstone, Nolan Scott Coon and Lily Ann Coon all of Caribou. She is loved and will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her father Philip D. Thornton. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou from 7-9pm Friday. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Saturday February 25, 2012 at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Bentum pastor officiating.
