Rita M. Bernaiche

CARIBOU and MADAWASKA LAKE – Rita M. Bernaiche, 99, died November 14, 2023 at her Madawaska Lake residence. She was born in Fort Kent, July 14, 1924 the daughter of the late Ovide and Philomene (Valliancourt) Voisine. She attended Stockholm Schools, and married Robert W. Bernaiche on November 10, 1943. Mrs. Bernaiche was a longtime member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and was also a member of the Caribou Lioness Club, the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. In the early 1970s, Rita went back to work at MECON in Caribou until her retirement. She loved to walk and would walk up to four miles a day until an accident in 2017 at the age of 93. Rita was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1998, siblings, Sylvio, Exior, and Herbert Voisine, Roseanna Lausier, Emma Jakes, and Delia Janton. She is survived by her children, Clinton Bernaiche and wife Eleanor of South Carolina, Donald Bernaiche and wife Stacey of Idaho, Michael Bernaiche and wife Bonnie of Caribou, Betty Hersey and husband Kirk of Madawaska Lake, JoAnn Gordon and husband Rex of Standish, Douglas Bernaiche and partner Jason Holiday of Virginia, Donna Bernaiche of North Carolina, her grandchildren, Michelle Gagnon, Robert, Jessica, Corey, Kyle, and Travis Bernaiche, Candace Hersey-Benner, Michael and Devin Hersey, Justin and Tyler Gordon, Baby Angel Jack Warren, and Emily Warren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held in the spring.
