Richard J. Schmitt, Sr.

Richard J Schmitt Sr. of Caribou, was born October 24, 1963, in Whitewater Junction, VT, died peacefully in the comforts of his home on August 16, 2026. Richard served his country proudly in the United States Air Force as a radio communicator. During his time in the service, Richard earned many medals, ribbons and awards such as AF Commendation Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal with 1 Device, NCO Professional Military Education ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, AF Training Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award with 1 Device.

Richard ended his military career honorably discharged after 14 years of service. After his time in the service, Richard worked in many supervisor rolls such as supervisor at Maine Packers until they closed, McCains until 2015, and then ending as a supervisor in freight at Wal-Mart in Presque Isle.

Richard lived beyond by his parents Judy Schmitt and Charles Schmitt of Claremont, NH. He is survived by his four children, Alex and Elayna Schmitt of Canada, Richard Schmitt Jr. of Clinton ME, and Grace Schmitt of Mars Hill ME. He also survived by his siblings Kim Baker, Kelly Jarvis, his brother Micheal Schmitt and many nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held October 2, 2026, at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Private gathering to follow at the American Legion in Caribou.
