Preston (Prep) Dumond

LIMESTONE - Preston “Prep” Dumond, 84, died Friday, February 11, 2022 at his Limestone residence following a period of declining health. He was born in Fort Fairfield, December 19, 1937 to James and Mattie (Holmes) Dumond. Prep attended Fort Fairfield Schools, and then served in the United States Army, serving in Germany as a military police officer. After returning from Germany, he continued his civilian life working as a police officer for both Fort Fairfield and Caribou Police Departments. He retired in 1998 from the Caribou Police Department after 25 years of service. Prep also served in the Army National Guard Unit for many years, and was a member of the American Legion Post #27 in Fort Fairfield. He was an avid fisherman who particularly enjoyed his time at Munson Pond. Prep was also a member of the Caribou Bowling League, and especially enjoyed playing cribbage with his many friends. He is survived by his life partner of 41 years, Ellen S. Gendreau, of Limestone, son, Todd Barnes and grandson, Joshua (Peanut) Barnes of Auburn. He is also survived by his stepson, Dennis Barnes and wife Becky, and grandson, Dennis “DJ” Barnes all of Fort Fairfield, several nieces and nephews. Prep was predeceased by his parents and his 7 siblings.

Friends may visit with the family Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 10AM until time of services which will be held at 11AM from the chapel of the funeral home. The family requests that those attending wear a face covering. Interment will be in the spring at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish to contribute in his memory may do so through the American Heart Association, P.O.
