Norman J. “Billy” Martin, 73, died with his family by his side on July 2, 2025 at Cary Medical Center. He was born in Caribou, on February 18, 1952 the son of the late Norman and Doris (Plourde) Martin.
He was a 1970 graduate of Caribou High School and was a member of the Maine Army National Guard for 30 years, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. Billy was a lifelong member of the Parish of the Precious Blood Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Billy loved the outdoors which is where he spent his working life driving his Western Star hauling logs. He owned and operated Martin Forest Products for the past 30 years. He also enjoyed truck and tractor pulls, and relaxing with a cold one. He was a generous and kind man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carlene Martin, one son, Scott Martin and wife Carissa, one daughter Billie Jo Martin and significant other Joe Taggett all of Caribou, one sister, Ella Mae Martin of DeWitt, Iowa, three grandchildren whom he absolutely adored, Logan, Brayden and Meagan Martin, two fur grandchildren who will miss him dearly, Alex and Molly, as well as many nieces and nephews. Billy was predeceased by two brothers, Gerald “Bobby” Martin and Steven Martin.
Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 from 6PM until 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 11AM at the Parish of the Precious Blood Sacred Heart Catholic Church, North Caribou. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of continued fellowship and refreshments will be held in the parish hall.
