Norma Haines, 91, passed peacefully on February 5, 2026, at the Caribou Nursing Home, following a period of declining health. She was born on June 24, 1934, in Ashland, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Charline (Howe) Caron.
Norma was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a devoted farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, lovingly known as “Gigi.” Strong, capable, and steady, she was fondly remembered as a true field boss; someone who led with confidence, heart, and a deep understanding of hard work. Norma found joy in the outdoors, whether snowmobiling or four-wheeling, and she cherished time spent with friends. Gatherings with “the girls,” filled with card games, laughter, and friendship, were among her most treasured moments.
She is survived by her children: Penny Caron of Windsor, Virginia; Donna Haines of Pittsfield, Maine; Danny Haines of Caribou; David Haines and his wife Cheryl of Caribou; and Peter Haines and his wife Loise of Rantoul, Illinois. She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Sealander of California and Carol Williams of South Carolina; her beloved grandchildren, Shane Caron, Shawn LaPointe, Travis Caron, Peter Haines, Keacha Haines, Chris LaPointe, Brittany (Haines) Ballard, Daniel Haines, Heather Sylvia, Dustin Haines, and Jordan Haines; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, Duncan Haines; her sister, Jan Howaniec; and her brother, Ted Caron.
Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
