Norman Clevette

CARIBOU and ROCKLAND – Norman Clevette, 88, loving husband and father of four children, was called to his heavenly home, on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 after a brief illness. Norman was born in Caribou, on May 28,1932, the son of Mack and Annie (Ouellette) Clevette. Norman met and married the love of his life, Mary McNeil on April 16,1951. Together they raised four children, Catherine Bell and her husband, David of Jacksonville, FL, Michael Clevette and his wife, Rita (Godin), of Middleburg, FL, Christine Smith and her husband, Mark, of Limestone, Mark Clevette and his wife, Amy (Boynton), of Warren; eight grandchildren; Beth Badgerow, Nichole Bell, Nicholas Clevette, Matthew Clevette, Kathryn Griffin, Elizabeth Johndro, Molly Clevette and Alex Clevette; a brother, David Clevette, of TN; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Norman was educated in the Caribou School system and developed a love of carpentry. He was a gifted woodworker and helped build many of the homes in town. He was always happy to share his knowledge of carpentry with anyone. He spoke fondly of his years working at the Caribou High School and his work in the Caribou Performing Arts Center there. Norman loved to share stories of his youth and the mischief he used to get into. He was a local speed skating champion in the late 1940’s.  He was set to go to the Olympic trial when his coach died suddenly.  Years later, Norman would strap on skates again and head to the Forum to share his love of skating with his granddaughter Kathryn Griffin. Norman was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Mary, and a brother, Ronald Clevette. The family would very much like to thank the staff at Woodland Memory Care of Rockland, Maine for the love and care they provided to Norman during his stay with them. He enjoyed the Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings they held with all the resident’s family members there and the live music. A Celebration of Norman’s life will be held at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 11:00 AM.  Please be mindful of others by practicing social distancing, wearing a face covering and be aware that the numbers of people allowed in the building at one time will be limited. Interment will be in the New Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
