Merton G. Pete, Jr. 74, died March 29, 2026 at his Woodland residence following a short illness. He was born in Lincoln, December 5, 1951 the son of the late Merton G. Pete Sr. and Lillian (Mushero) Pete. Merton attended schools in Lincoln, graduating from Mattanawcook Academy. Mr. Pete served for 20 years in the United States Air Force, including a tour of duty during Desert Storm. He served at several duty stations including Texas, Illinois, South Carolina, Alaska, Florida, Maine, Germany, Saudi Arabia, then returning to Maine to retire. In 1983 he married Sharon Stubbs, whom he met at Loring Air Force Base. Pete enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, but his true passion was golfing.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Woodland, Sharon, are his children; Kevin Bennett and wife Deanna of Old Orchard Beach, Brian Bennett and wife Melissa of Manning, S.C., Jamie Bennett of Caribou, and Jennifer Alexander of Huntersville, N.C., two brothers; Fred Pete and wife Karen and David Pete all of Lincoln, two sisters; Karen Glidden of Holden, and Gayle Munson of Lincoln. Eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great grand on the way, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services with military honors will be held at a late date at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
