Matthew Ross Perreault, 44, of Caribou, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2026, at his camp on Madawaska Lake, a place where he felt most at peace.

In high school, Matt was an outstanding trumpeter with a bright, expressive tone all his own. He poured himself into every note, and those who heard him never forgot it. But perhaps his greatest gift was his way with children. Young ones were effortlessly drawn to him, enticed by his quiet calm, his gentle understanding, and his wonderfully warm comedic charm. That same gentle heart reached far beyond his inner circle. One Thanksgiving, he arrived at dinner a bit late because he had stopped to pick up a woman walking alone. She had no family, so Matt brought her to share the holiday meal with his own. He never hesitated to care for someone in need.

Above all else, Hayden was his reason for living. Matt's world did not simply revolve around his beloved son; Hayden was its very center, its core, its purpose. Every joy he embraced, every moment he treasured came back to his son, who meant everything to him. He was such a wonderful father, so devoted, and he had a rare ability to make Hayden feel truly seen and understood. They were not simply father and son; they were best friends. Their days were fi lled with the joyful rituals of a deep and playful connection: side by side conquering XBox games, walks with meaningful talks, or mentally building visualizations of elaborate universes where arch villains met their match and new superheroes rose to save the day. In those imagined worlds and in this one, Matt was Hayden's hero.

Matt was the beloved son of Steve and Kim (Cousins) Perreault. He is survived by his cherished son, Hayden James Kennedy Perreault; his brother-in-law, William Perreault-Paul; his grandfather Charles Hogan; as well as extended family and countless friends who will carry his memory in their hearts. Matt was predeceased by his brother, Branden Perreault; his grandmothers, Marilyn Cousins, Ercil Perreault, and Joanne Hogan; and his grandfathers, Allan Cousins and Bill Perreault. Matthew Ross Perreault left this world far too soon, but the art he created with his trumpet, the love he gave, and the laughter he shared will echo on. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In keeping with the family's wishes, private family services will be held. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
