Caribou – Denise Mattern, 53, died July 13, 2021 at Bangor following a brief illness. She was born in Caribou, August 11, 1967, the daughter of the late Everett and Marjorie (Johnson) Cole. Denise was a graduate of Caribou High School and received her cosmetology degree. She explored employment passions, such as cosmetology, bookkeeping and paralegal. She married Dylan Mattern August 31, 2019. Denise was a member of the Presque Isle United Church of Christ. She had a passion for supporting military veterans, was an avid outdoor person, enjoyed camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, going to the lakes and gardening. She was kind and compassionate and enjoyed meeting others. Surviving in addition to her husband of Caribou, is her son Dylan Laforge, of Sudbury, Ontario, whom she loved immensely and was so very proud of. Her siblings, Timothy Cole and wife Lezlie of Cross Lake, Donald Cole of Caribou, nephew Bryan Cole and wife Paige and their three children of Caribou, Lisa Chase of Caribou and her daughter Danielle Chase, Kimberly Mayne and her husband John Bourgoine of Caribou and their three children, Haley Mayne, Aeden and Cote Bourgoine. Her uncle Randy Johnson, aunt Jo Strid, and aunt Judy and uncle Carl Washburn and their three children. Family services will be held at a later date. Friends who wish to contribute in Denise’s name may do so through the United Veterans of Maine or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
