Martha Mary McGlinn age 88, of Caribou, Maine, died at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Caribou on February 14, 2024.
Martha was born in Caribou on April 2, 1935 to Yvonne (Lebel) Lagasse and George Lagasse, who were hard working farmers in Connor. She, and her brother Gaitán, spent their time while growing up working on the farm and attending local schools. Martha graduated from Caribou High School and later went on to work at Caribou Chamber of Commerce, S.W. Collins, and lastly, at Maine Public Service. It was here, somewhere between answering phones and filing paperwork, that she met the love of her life, Dale T. McGlinn. It was then that her true purpose came to be, and her light shone most brightly for the next 65 years.
Martha and Dale married in Caribou in 1958 and couldn’t wait to start a family of their own, and their children meant the world to them. James, Carla, Kevin, and Kelli completed their family and together they worked together to raise their children with an abundance of goodness, love, and light. This was carried forward into the next generation with their grandchildren, Amanda (McGlinn) Spaulding and Joanna (McGlinn) Gervais, Brandon Williams, Dustan McGlinn, Britany (Monroe) Fecteau, and Madison Doody. and all their families and significant others. Their family grew even further with the addition of great grandchildren, spouses and partners.
After her years of work with Maine Public she retired and immediately began both working and volunteering at the Maine Veterans Home. She also participated with the American Legion Auxiliary and held office as Treasurer for a number of years. She was also a lifelong member of the Parish of the Precious Blood.
Everyone who knew Martha knew how much she loved her husband, her family and her home. There was never a moment that she was not with Dale working on their home, always together.
Martha will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity. When greeting our mom and asking how she was doing, her memorable response was always “I am all right. It is the world that is all wrong.”
We couldn’t agree more Mom, today indeed, without you in it, the world is all wrong.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her son, James and her daughter in law Linda. She is survived by her husband Dale, her daughter Carla (McGlinn) and Scott Williams; Kevin McGlinn and his wife Lisa McGlinn; and her daughter Kelli McGlinn.
In honor of her memory, please reach out to those around you that need support with dementia care. It is truly the longest goodbye for the family and those afflicted. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 9AM at the Old Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
