Mabel (Quimby) Wilcox, 93, was welcomed to her heavenly home, June 4, 2025 at Caribou. She was born August 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Albert and Lillian (Patterson) Quimby, in Caribou, where she grew up.
She married Clifton Wilcox on October 6,1952 and together they raised their family in Washburn. Mom was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was faithful to attending church and helping in any way she could. Mom was an avid crafter starting at a very young age. She learned multiple skills of crafting, sewing, knitting and others as a child and carried those talents throughout her life. She lovingly made many crafts, including quilts, clothing, crocheting, knitting and many other crafts. Her mind was always busy thinking of the next craft to make and her hands were always busy creating them. She loved teaching her children and grandchildren how to make these crafts. She often gave these crafts to others and organizations to distribute and she made hundreds of mittens over the years which were donated to the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging where she was a volunteer, as well as many others. As her family will attest to, mom was a great cook. Her family still talks about the meals and sweets she made. She also worked outside the home at various locations including Tater State in Washburn and Maine Bag in Caribou. She is survived by her children, Robert Hersey, Russell (Cindy) Wilcox, Susan Osgood and Juanita (Mike) Cyr, her grandchildren, Nicole (Albert) Farley, Sherri (Todd) Parker, Lori (Lance) Albair, Katie (Joshua) Bosse, Bill (Debra) Bell, Christopher (Sarah) Osgood and Jeremy (Krista) Cyr. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She loved all her children dearly. Mabel was predeceased by her husband Clifton, on January 16, 1989, a daughter-in-law Nancy Hersey, son-in-law Jesse Osgood, great-grandchildren Bobby and Andy Farley, a special niece Joann Michaud Martin, brothers William, Floyd, Lewis and David, sisters Vie Paul, Evelyn Michaud and Joyce Rogers. Mom wanted to live to be 100 and didn’t quite make it but lived the longest of her siblings.
A Celebration of Mabel’s life will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 1PM from the Chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou with Rev. Vinal Wilcox officiating.
