Woodland – Marie “Mavis” Carson, 91, beloved daughter, sister, wife, Mum, Grammy, aunt, and cousin, peacefully went to be with her Lord on March 19, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born in Caribou on May 15, 1929, attended school and grew up in The County, primarily in Woodland with her family, including her parents, the late Leo George McLaughlin, Sr. and Lena May Wilcox. Mavis was one of 15 Mclaughlin children, the last of all her predeceased siblings: Frederick, Raymond, Charles, Leo George, Helen McShea, Gretchen McDougal, Mable Brown, Myrtle Sjoberg, Thelma Frost, Shirley Demoura, Priscilla Drost and three stillborn babies. Mavis was predeceased by her stepmother, Sudie McLaughlin. She also has three stepsisters: Mrs. Mary Mosley, Mrs. Ruth Delanau, and Mrs. Phyllis Hanson
Mavis met the love of her life, the late Donald Earl Carson, Sr. in 1950, and they were married soon thereafter, on January 27, 1951. They lived in Caribou and Woodland for a few years before moving to their home on the Colby Road six years later, where they lived together for almost fifty years.
Mavis and Donnie had six children of their own: Dana E. (Peggy), Leah R. (Wayne Mazerolle), Paula S. (Roland Charette), Donald E. Jr. (Patty), Rocky L. (Judy), and their youngest, the late Craig A. Carson. Mavis loved her family deeply including all of her Grandchildren; Dana, Chris, Mike, Aaron, Staci (her son, Baby Mike, predeceased), Brian, Mike, Heather, Carson, Matthew, Julie, Heather, (Bonnie, predeceased), Gabriel, Wendy, and many Great and Great-Greatgrandchildren. Additionally, she loved her good friends Bertha and Beverly who took Mavis to Lunch with them every day and many other good friends who looked out for her and took her to church services whenever possible.
Mavis was best known for her love of animals of all kinds. She and Donnie raised their children on that small farm on the Colby Road where they raised horses, cattle, German shepherd dogs, cats, and a menagerie of all kinds of farm animals…too numerous to count. She enjoyed gardening, activities with her friends and family such as Bingo Nights with her sisters, arts and crafts, cake decorating, collecting anything with the image of a horse on it, and often just sitting around telling stories and reminiscing about favorite people, animals, places and shared experiences. She was an active lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Woodland, where she attended every service and church sponsored activity that she possibly could during the last several decades of her life. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ, her pastors and her precious church family. She could be heard regularly at night before bed praying for her family and friends before saying, “Good Night” to her Lord…Amen.
