Caribou – Louis “Lou” M. Leavitt, 86, passed away after a brief illness on September 16, 2023 in Houlton surrounded by his adoring family. He was born in Lincoln, October 8, 1936 the son of the late Howard and Lottie (English) Leavitt.  

He attended Lee Academy and graduated from the University of Maine in 1957. Following college graduation, Lou served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. He then worked at Agway for more than 30 years.

Lou was a member of Caribou Lodge #170 A.F. & A.M. where he recently received his 50-year pin. He was also an active member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Leavitt was married to his loving wife, Nancy Ann Kilbride for 61 years, and she predeceased him in 2019. He is also predeceased by his grandson and great-grandson. He is survived by his children, Lou-Ann Milton of Poland, Cindy Kinney of Caribou, Scott Leavitt of Fort Fairfield, and Danny Leavitt of Caribou, 5 grandchildren, and 9 very special great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 1PM at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, 2 Prospect Street, Caribou, with Rev. Rich Rego officiating. Interment will be in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 10AM.
