Lloyd Bragdon

November 23, 1929 — September 18, 2021

CARIBOU - Lloyd Bragdon died in the early hours of Saturday, September 18th, 2021 at the Presque Isle Nursing Home. He was born on November 23rd, 1929 to Ernest and Verna (Wark) Bragdon in Fort Fairfield, Maine. He was the fourth of their five sons. He was educated in the Caribou and Presque Isle Schools graduating in 1947. He married Gloria Hall on September 29th, 1956.  With great love, they raised their six daughters in Caribou.

For 38 years, Mr. Bragdon worked for Maine Public Service rising from the job of operator to the superintendent of generating stations.  After graduation from high school, he served for nine year as a member of the 152 FA Battalion, Battery A, Maine National Guard achieving the rank of First Sergeant. He loved to read and served on the Caribou Public Library board. 

Lloyd was an amateur astronomer and greatly enjoyed viewing the night skies with his telescope. All of his life, he followed with devotion, the Boston Red Sox.  He also enjoyed gardening. He and Gloria tended large flower and vegetable gardens. He was an avid fly fisherman. He tied his own flies and made his own rods. He spent many hours trekking through the Northern Maine woods in search of brook trout. He enjoyed traveling too. He visited his daughters and friends in both the United States, Canada, and Europe.  

Mr. Bragdon is survived by his six daughters: Jennifer Bragdon of Bangor, Maine, Julie Armstrong of Iowa, Jeanne Bragdon Radak and husband, Bronc, of New Jersey, Janice Schenck and her husband, Brian, of Seattle, WA, Jill Bragdon of Nampa, Idaho, and Jacquelyn Breedlove and her husband, John, of Bangor, Maine. He had eight grandchildren: Roland Boshnack, Ann-Elise Schenck Shanygin, Alexander Boshnack, Robin Schenck, Andrew Schenck, Emily Schenck Huth, Joseph Radak, Margaret Radak, Eve Breedlove and Jackson Breedlove. He also is survived by four great grandchildren: Phillip Shanygin, Lily Schenck, Audrey Huth and Charlotte Huth.

 Mr. Bragdon also is survived by sisters-in-law: Clara Bragdon of Winter Haven, Florida, Donna Bragdon of Parrish, Florida and Jeanne Hall of Guilford, Maine. He also is survived by nieces and nephews as well as cousins. He also is survived by a lifelong friend,  Hugh Kirkpatrick of Caribou.

 Mr. Bragdon was predeceased by his first wife, Gloria Bragdon, in 1998. His four brothers: Gordon, Darrell, Ernest, and Gary also predeceased him. His second wife, Shirley Bragdon, predeceased him on March 31st, 2021. 

Funeral services will be held October 18, 2021 at 1pm from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Caribou Public Library, High Street, Caribou, ME.
