Caribou

Kalen J. Hill, 70, died May 2, 2025 at Cary Medical Center following a long battle with cancer. She was born in Caribou, October 5, 1954 the daughter of Louis and Eva (Martin) Belanger. Kalen was a 1972 graduate of Caribou High School, and a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. On July 17, 1988 she married Ernest Hill, and together they shared 23 years of marriage before his death in 2012. Kalen lived in Colorado for 31 years, before returning to Caribou in 2007. Kalen worked as a Deputy Clerk for the City of Caribou for 9 years, earning her Certified Clerk of Maine designation during that time. She also filled in as deputy clerk for the towns of Van Buren and Woodland. Kalen was especially thankful for the friends she made during her time in Caribou. The entire Caribou community surrounded her with love when she had to undergo a liver transplant and she was eternally grateful to all. Once her health improved she was able to become involved in many other community events, she especially enjoyed Relay for Life and the Blanket Ministry at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Kalen made friends where ever she went and always had a smile for everyone. She had a special place in heart for all her Colorado friends whom she never lost contact with. Kalen was an animal lover, and most recently had a cat companion named Opal.

Kalen is survived by siblings, Jeannette St. Peter and husband Leo, Joyce LaFrancois and husband Albert, and Clarence Belanger all of Caribou, nieces and nephews, Dale St. Peter and wife Debbie, Sherrie St. Peter and lifelong partner Francis Damboise, Scott St. Peter and wife Jennifer, Jerry St. Peter and wife Theresa, Karen Wright and husband Jay, Rodney Johndro and wife Cheryl, and Kerry Masse, many great-nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews. Kalen is also survived by a very special God-daughter, Taya Brown. In addition to her husband Ernie, she was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Dorena Johndro and her husband Reggie, and a sister-in-law, Debbie Belanger.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 30,2025 at 2PM at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 36 Lombard Road, Caribou. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Kalen are asked to do so in support of the family C/O Mockler Funeral Home, P.O. Box 24, Caribou, Maine 04736.
