CMSGT James J. Kovach III, USAF Ret., 87, died September 30, 2024 at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou following a period of declining health. He was born in Twin Rocks, Pennsylvania, March 11, 1937 the son of James and Helen (Buite) Kovach II. He was a graduate of Blacklick Valley High School. Following graduation enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for over 28 years until his retirement. He served in numerous locations throughout the U.S. and Vietnam due the war. Jim was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9389 in Caribou.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine L. (Wightman) Kovach, of Caribou, and their children, Dennis Kovach and wife Karen of Woodland, Joseph Kovach and wife Marla of Caribou, and Dina Gruber and husband Gerald of Mascoutah, IL, a sister, Helen Kovach of Illinois, three grandchildren, Jacob Gruber, Joshua Kovach and wife Alison, and Jessika Bellomo and husband Joshua, two great-grandchildren, Grace and Ruth Bellomo. Mr. Kovach was predeceased by his parents, and by siblings, Val Kovach, Joseph Kovach, Charles “Red” Kovach, Ester Harris, and Lewis Kovach.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Woodland Baptist Church, from 10AM until time of services which will be held at 11AM with Pastor Troy Heald officiating. A time of continued fellowship and refreshments will follow at in the church hall. Interment with military honors will be in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.
