James Belanger

CARIBOU – James E. “Jim” Belanger, 70, passed away March 19, 2019 at Van Buren after a long illness. He was born in Caribou, September 1, 1948, the son of John B. and Huberta (Gahagan) Belanger. Jim was a 1966 graduate of Caribou High School, and in the summer of 2016 was able to help plan and attend his fiftieth class reunion, which meant the world to him. Following graduation he attended Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, where he earned a degree in Electrical Construction. On August 23, 1969 he married Deena Harmon, and together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage. Most recently Jim was employed at Maine Military Authority, until his retirement in 2011. Over the years he also worked at, Daigle Oil Co., Ferris Oil, John Noble Construction, Maine Public Service, and Caribou School Department. Throughout his life he was a self-employed farmer, and farming was his lifelong passion. Jim was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Fred V. Brescia Council 1870. Jim was a Sergeant on the Caribou Police Department Reserves from 1980 to 1995, an EMT in Caribou, and held a boiler operator’s and trainee plumber’s license with the State of Maine. He also was a Future Farmer’s of America Member, and was a State of Maine Officer in 1966. Jim is survived by his wife, Deena, of Caribou, a son, J.R. Belanger and wife Lindsay of Caribou, a daughter, Julie Belanger and her partner Ray Kervin of Linneus, two very special grandsons, Jay and Alex Belanger, three very special bonus grandchildren, Jacob, Autumn, and Emmaleine, all of Caribou, a brother, John P. Belanger and wife Marty of Caribou, a sister, Barbara Frodin of Denver, CO, special cousins, Bob Marquis and family of Frenchville, and Anne Marquis Oliver and family of University Place, WA, a brother-in-law, Paul and wife Loretta Harmon of Sebastian, FL, and a special nephew, Matt Harmon and his family of Hudson, OH. He is also survived by several cousins, and special friends.

Friends may visit with the family Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held at the chapel of the funeral home, on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11am.
