Guilda M. Masse, 80, died September 30, 2026 as her hand was held by the love of her life. She was born February 20, 1946, in Clair, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Henri and Marie-Jeanne (Oakes) Soucy. Guilda attended Clair area schools, then in 1964 moved to Connecticut to help care for her brother's new baby. While in Connecticut, she met the man who would become her husband at a local French Dance Club. After a short courtship, they were married September 4th, 1965 making her Mrs. Gilman Masse. Their first son was born in 1966 and soon after they decided to relocate to Maine to run a farm in North Caribou. Their second son came along in 1968 completing their family.
After a family construction business was created she became a bookkeeper all while raising her 2 boys. Guilda possessed a strength shaped by Canadian and Northern Maine life. She grew up with a quiet resilience that shaped every chapter of her life. She was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She took great pride in her home and kept it beautifully decorated including her flowers that brighten the Van Buren Road. Her amazing cooking will always be remembered and greatly missed by all who had the privilege of sharing a place at her table. Gil and Guilda enjoyed riding snowmobiles, traveling and a good game of aggravation with family and friends.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, Gilman of Caribou, she is survived by their two sons, Roger Masse of Caribou, and Robert Masse and wife Allyson of Woodland, siblings, Nelson Soucy and his wife Marie-Paule and Linda Charette and her husband Dana all of Clair, New Brunswick, Canada, sister-in-laws Rena Dubay, Jeannine St. Jean and Geraldine Cyr and her husband Gerard. Also, her grandsons, Rylan Masse (Rylee Cassidy)and Keanen Masse ( Tyra Sterner), many nieces and nephews.
Guilda was predeceased by her parents, and by a brother, Gilles Soucy.
Though our hearts are broken by her absence, we are so grateful for the many years we were blessed to have her with us. Her love, her strength, her wisdom and memories will remain in our hearts forever.
