Catherine Griffeth

CARIBOU – Catherine Mary Elizabeth (Hodges) Griffeth, 74, passed away unexpectedly February 15, 2019 at Caribou. She was born August 29, 1944 in Medford, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Timothy and Crystal (Watson) Hodges. On February 6, 1960, she married Wayne A. Griffeth Sr. She attended school in New Brunswick, as well as Caribou Adult Ed, University of Maine at Presque Isle, and the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Catherine was a graduate of Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute with a degree in nursing. She worked as a RN at Cary Medical Center, Caribou Nursing Home, the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou and was a travelling nurse in Florida, for many years until her retirement. Catherine attended Gray Memorial United Methodist Church in Caribou, and more recently attended the Limestone United Methodist Church. She is a member if the Northern Maine District of United Methodist Women, and was a past secretary of this group.

            She is survived by her husband Wayne Sr. of Caribou, her son, Wayne A. Griffeth-Hurst and partner David Griffeth-Hurst of Charleston, two special sons-in-law, Russell Hall of Corbin, KY, and Steven Johnson of Glenburn , ND, nine grandchildren and their spouses, Philip and Lauren Griffeth, James and Leshea Hall, Rebecca (Johnson) and Jon Meedenger, Casandra and Kyle Visioky, Judson Drake and Chenanne Balance, Jamie Lee and Jennifer Jackson, Allen-Michael Bennett, and Monica and Garrick Alley, eight great-grandchildren, Summer and Kaydence Parker, Jennifer and Lilly Jackson, Shawn, Thomas and Kylie Griffeth, and Joseph Visioky. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Judy Hodges, and Edgar and Janice Hodges all of Ontario, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Marlene Griffeth of Caribou, Melvin Griffeth of Limestone, and Brenda Tyson of Florida. Catherine was predeceased by her parents, three daughters, Barbara Johnson, Debra Hall, and Roxann Alley, a son, Rex Griffeth, a grandson, Ryan Griffeth, a son-in-law, Eric Alley, brothers, Scott and Ellery Hodges, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Maynard and Helen Griffeth, two brothers-in-law, Wendell Griffeth, and Jerry Tyson, and a sister-in-law, Colleen Hodges.

            Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, on Friday, February 22, 2019, from 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2:30 at the Limestone Methodist Church, with Pastor Cheryl Stratton officiating. Spring interment will be in the Ward Cemetery, Limestone.
