CARIBOU and PRESQUE ISLE - Gordon L. “Ted” Holmes, 90, died February 27, 2022 surrounded by some of his family at the home of his daughter Greta. He was born in Caribou, September 8, 1931 the son of Hanford and Faye (Richards) Holmes. He received the nickname “Ted” from his sister, Virgie, who was ten years older than him. When he was born, she remarked that he was her “Teddy Bear” and the name has been with him since. Ted worked as a machinist in Connecticut and New Hampshire. In his younger years he worked at the Starch Factory in Caribou, and on area potato farms. He was a member of the New Hampshire Grange, and the White Tops. In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his wife, Natalie (Dunn) Holmes, a daughter, Glenna, and all of his siblings. He is survived by 5 children, Ernie and wife Dianne of VA, Elmer of ME, Dennis and wife Mickey of CT, Greta and husband Scott Wilson of ME, Gerry of CT, and a son-in-law, Gerald Searles of ME. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ted will also be lovingly remembered by all of his special friends in New Hampshire. Our promise was made, and we fulfilled it to the best of our ability - love you Dad. At his request, no funeral services will be held. A private family interment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou.
