Gilman J. Masse, 84 died unexpectedly October 12, 2026 at Bangor and was reunited with his beloved wife of over 61 years, Guilda, just 12 days after her passing. He was born in Van Buren, June 26, 1942 the son of the late Alfred and Ozithe (Lajoie) Masse. He attended the Van Buren schools and married Guilda Soucy September 4, 1965.
The early years of their marriage were spent on the Brissette Road farm in Caribou. Through hard work and determination he started his own business along side his brother. Gilman co-owned and operated G & G Masse Construction in Caribou for many years. He took great pride in what he built, not simply for the success it brought, but for the opportunity it gave him to provide for his family. He built their own home on the Van Buren Road in 1977 and has been a meticulous caretaker ever since.
Above all his accomplishments, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, a responsible and teaching father and an attentive, fun-loving pepere. He enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling and playing weekend poker games with family and friends. All who had the pleasure of knowing Gil will remember his infectious smile, jovial laugh and the playful mischievous look in his eyes.
Gil was a long time faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for the past 62 years and very active member of the Fred V. Brescia Council 1870 where he served as past Grand Knight.
He is survived by two sons Roger Masse of Caribou and Robert Masse and wife Allyson of Woodland. His beloved grandsons; Rylan Masse (Rylee Cassidy) and Keanen Masse (Tyra Sterner). Three sisters: Geraldine Cyr and husband Gerard of Palmyra, Rena Dubay of Bangor and Jeannine St. Jean of Caribou and sister in law Leola Masse of Bangor & many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Masse was predeceased by brothers; Nelson, Herman, Anthelm, Delmer, Gerald, Raynold, Newman as well as sisters; Claudette Milliard, Yvette Cyr, Cecile St. Jean and Pauline Maillet.
The memories he created and the love he gave will remain forever in our hearts. His work is done here, but the legacy he built through his family, his business and the lives he touched will live on.
Friends may visit with the family Monday October 19, 2026 from 9:00 am until 1030 am at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir St Caribou.
