Gilbert Dufour

Caribou-Gilbert Dufour, 69, passed peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer January 1, 2021 at The Aroostook House of Comfort Presque Isle, surrounded by his loving family. Gilbert was born in Caribou July 11, 1951 the son of the late Joseph & Isabelle (Gagnon)Dufour.
He married the love of his life Evelyn Dufour in Caribou in 1976, they had a long and loving marriage of 44 years. His marriage to Evelyn brought two loving children, a daughter Donne and a son Adrien, 6 grandsons Brandon and his wife Savanna, Dan, Cody, Bradley, Tyler and Connor and 2 great grandson Jaxson and Grayson. Gil had so much love for his family providing love and support when they needed it. He had a special sense of humor, he loved to torment each of them in his own way. During his illness Gil had been blessed with a special relationship with Rick Prue of Caribou.
In 1968 Gilbert started working for Caribou Public Works department. His career was his passion, he started digging ditches and worked his way up to running heavy equipment as the Grader Operator. During his 48 years at Caribou Public Works, he built many relationships, two special ones with coworkers Jamie Burby and Larry Gamblin. Gil would take his yearly vacations and work for local farmers during harvest break; Warren Anderson, Skonieczny,s and Murray Blackstone and Sons Farm.
Gilbert is survived by his beautiful wife Evelyn, daughter Donne and her significant other Rick of Caribou, Son Adrien and wife Dianna of Cape Neddick, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, four sisters; Grace Blake of Nevada, Sylvia Ouellette of Caribou, Leona Hurtz and Linda Thompson both of North Carolina, A brother Vandale “Beaver” Dufour of Caribou. He was predeceased by siblings. Robert, Donna, Raymond, Kenny, Herbert “Duke” and Doris Dufour and Dorothy Turner.
Private services will be held in the Spring. The family is asking that donations be made to The Aroostook House of Comfort P O box 867 Presque Isle Maine 04769 in lieu of flowers. A special Thank You to the providers and staff at Aroostook House for the excellent care they provided to him and his family during his stay.
