Germaine (Rossignol) Whitten

4/29/39 - 11/29/21

WASHBURN - It was with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Germaine Whitten, on November 29, 2021.

Mom left us peacefully in her sleep after two days filled with love, laughs and plenty of stories surrounded by all of her loved ones in the comfort of the home of her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dottie and Steve Sines.

Germaine was born on April 29, 1939 in Van Buren to Bertha (Vaillancourt) Rossignol and Theodule Rossignol.

August 29, 1960 Germaine married Joseph Whitten they built their life in Crouseville where they raised four children.

Over the years mom worked jobs in factories and food prep, but her most rewarding jobs were raising her family, taking care of her home and being with her grandchildren.

Mom’s grandchildren meant the world to her, you could ask anyone who knew her, she would spend hours talking about each and every one of them. Mom was the second oldest of 17 children so always having family around was what she enjoyed the most. Mom loved to play games, win or lose she didn’t care, it was the time that she was spending with us that was most important. Mom will be truly missed, along with her amazing fruit cocktail she made for Thanksgiving dinner.

Mom is survived by her husband Joseph D. Whitten of Washburn, daughter Connie Markham of Newmarket, NH, son William Whitten and wife Tracy of Waterboro, son Alfred Whitten and wife Tracy of Caribou and daughter Jana, and her wife Adrienne of Lewiston as well as 8 grandchildren who were the sparkle in her eye, Robert, River, Rayne, Thyme, Winter, Zachary, Willow and Dawson as well as dozens of siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family Friday, December 3, 2021 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 10am until 12pm. A Mass of Christian burial will follow, at 1pm, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Washburn. Interment will be held in the spring at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Aroostook Cancer Care, 140 Academy St. Presque Isle, 04769

“We’ll all be picking strawberries with you soon enough Mom, so hold your pants!”
