Galen George Thibodeau passed away into the arms of his Savior on June 2, 2026. He died in his home surrounded by his daughters after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Galen faced his diagnosis with unwavering faith, optimism and determination.
Galen was born on August 22, 1951 to Alban and Carmen (Martin) Thibodeau. He was raised and educated in Caribou, graduating from Caribou High School in 1970. In 1973 he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for six years achieving the rank of SSGT.
After his time of service, Galen worked Civil Service at Loring Air Force Base, was a truck driver for Lane Construction, and RH Foster, then later retired in 2013 from Maine Military Authority.
Galen had a profound love of antiques from old tools, farm equipment, trucks, cars, and especially farm tractors. His passion was Farmall tractors. He frequently had his own Farmall displayed at tractor shows and parades. He took great pride in sharing with other antique tractor enthusiasts.
In addition to the countless hours he spent tinkering with his tractors, he devoted equal care and attention to the meticulous detailing and upkeep of his vehicles. His appreciation for precision extended beyond machinery; he was just as particular about the way his favorite chicken stew was prepared, insisting that the dumplings be rolled out just right.
He could often be found taking a midweek “Sunday drive” along the backroads near his home, checking in on neighbors and keeping an eye on the progress of local farms. Whether farmers were planting, digging, or watching their crops mature, he took a genuine interest in how things were coming along.
Galen was predeceased by his parents, his brother Earl, his beloved wife of 26 years Brenda, a stepson Scotty Labbe and his favorite uncle Conday, with whom he had a special bond.
He is survived by his two daughters Fay Thibodeau and her husband Ron of South Berwick, Denise Fournier and her husband Gregg of Carmel, his grandsons Avery, Andre, Corbin and Fletcher. Stepchildren and families Rebecca and Steven Withee and Ronald Shedd. Galen is also survived by his sister-in-law Roseann Thibodeau, as well as niece Christi Riley and nephew Jeffrey Thibodeau all of Georgia, as well as many wonderful friends and cousins; and most importantly his loyal canine companion Pierre.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional care Galen received throughout his journey—from diagnosis and surgery to treatment and hospice care. The kindness, compassion, and support shown to Galen and his loved ones will never be forgotten.
Interment with military honors will take place Monday, June 15, 2026 at 12PM at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
