Gail M. Thompson, 89, passed away peacefully in Caribou on April 12, 2026. She was born in Smyrna Mills, the youngest of seven children, on September 26, 1936, to Hazen and Effie Bustard. Gail was a graduate of Oakfield Community High School at 16 years old in 1953, moving on to ASTC (now UMPI) in 1957, where she met her husband, Freddy, through his sister, her college roommate. Upon graduation, she taught various lower-elementary grades and adult education in the following years. She brought this same gift to the church, teaching Sunday School and Bible studies for various ages.

Gail’s relationship with the Lord grew through the years and provided much comfort, allowing her to share her faith with others in the community through visits, calls, and cards. In earlier years, she showed strong devotion to her husband, supporting the family farm, raising her two children, and taking care of her home. Later in life, she and Fred enjoyed time in Naples, Florida, making new friends and hosting family visits. Gail was blessed by her family, church, and community throughout her years living in Caribou.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Thompson, in 2012 after 51 years of marriage. Surviving are her two children and their spouses, Sue (Tim) Cushman and John (Heidi) Thompson. She was loved by her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life for Gail will be held on Monday, April 20, at 1:00 p.m. at Caribou United Baptist Church, 74 High Street, Caribou.
