Bethel and Stockholm - Doris Hemphill Gagnon, 87 died August 10, 2022 in Bethel at the home of her daughter with her family by her side. She was born in Houlton October 6, 1934 the only daughter of Burns and Irene (McGann) Hemphill. After graduating from Houlton High school, she attended the Mercy School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse. Doris returned to Caribou, where her parents had moved and met and married Reginald R. Gagnon, June 28, 1956. She worked at Cary Memorial Hospital / Cary Medical Center for over 41 years, most of that time spent as the Operating Room supervisor. She enjoyed her time managing the operating room by guiding patients and families through the process, as well as mentoring future doctors, nurses and staff to the benefits of a career in health care. An avid reader, Doris was a trustee and volunteer for the Caribou Public Library and after her husband’s death, volunteered for 20 years at the Oncology Clinic at Cary. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and after her move to Madawaska Lake, she was an active member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Stockholm where she served on the church council and as a Lecture. In her retirement, she enjoyed meeting her friends for coffee at Stan’s, playing cards and was a member of the Madawaska Lake Campers Association. She was a collector of all things Angels, and was overjoyed to meet her two great grandchildren this past year. Doris is survived by her two daughters and their families; Julie and Daniel Hart of Bethel, Joan and Kevin Doree of Cumberland, three grandchildren, Lauren and Josh Clancy, Lindsay and Henry Ginsberg and Griffin Doree, two great grandchildren, Graham Clancy and Nell Ginsberg. Two brothers, Frank and Jessie Hemphill, and Paul and Anne Marie Hemphill, sisters in law Marlene Hemphill and Noreen Hemphill. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Reginald, brothers, Olin, Donald, and Philip Hemphill and sisters in law Lena Dyer and Gloria Poulin as well as nieces and nephews. Friends my visit with the family Friday September 9, 2022 from 6-8 pm at the Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir Street Caribou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Saturday September 10, 2022 from the Parish of the Precious Blood, St Theresa’s Catholic Church. Following the service all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments.
