Fred Dana Robinson

May 19, 1935 — December 14, 2022

CARIBOU - Fred “Dana” Robinson, passed away in the early morning of December 14th, 2022 at the age of 87, with his oldest daughter Fay Ann by his side. Dana was born May 19, 1935 in Philadelphia to Fred Henry Robinson and Ardena Lydia Fisher.

Dana grew during his formative years at Philadelphia where his father taught at Chestnut Hill Academy and summered in Kennebunkport where his Mother’s family lived; in his mid teens the family relocated to Kennebunkport then Delaware. He attended Fort Kent State Normal School (now UMFK) and received his teaching certification and met his future wife, Norma Marguerite Ouellette of Eagle Lake. They took teaching jobs at Damon and Harrison schools at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone; married in June 1960; and made their home in Caribou where they would raise their four children.

Dana was gregarious by nature, he loved the huge French Catholic family he married into; he was active in the community through the Catholic Church, Jaycees, Caribou bowling league, Scout Master for Troop 185, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Lions, a board member for the Caribou Library and Nylander Museum, and countless other community events over the years. He loved family gatherings and celebrations. He taught school for over 33 years and retired early at 56. He and Norma enjoy 14 years of snow birding to Florida; taking trips and cruises; working the Moose Tagging with his daughter, Sara, in New Sweden; hanging with the morning coffee crews at Reno’s, Tim Horton, or the 4 Way Quick Stop (Eagle Lake); and just hanging out at the camp with family and friends.

Dana was predeceased by his Parents and his beloved sister Fay Robinson. His life’s story will be continued by his wife Norma, of 62 years; his children: Fay Ann Keegan, Tracy Marie McCrossin, Fred Andrew Robinson, Sara Lynn Anderson; three grandchildren: Kyle Eugene McCrossin, Alexis Marie McCrossin, and Jazmine Ardena Robinson. He is also survived by his only first cousin Dale Robinson Hodge; two son-in-laws: David McCrossin and Dave Anderson; and many other family and friends who he shared time with over the years.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, from 5PM to 8PM, the family would appreciate if those attending would wear a mask. A celebration of Dana’s life will be held in the spring.

The family asked, in lieu of flowers, to consider honoring his memory by: buying a book for a Library, Dana loved to read; donating to a charity of your choice, he believed charity starts at home but does not end there; or simply giving a smile and a kind word to someone, he was great at doing that.

A celebration of the lives of Norma and Dana will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Sly Brook Sno-Riders Club at 110 Sly Brook Road, New Canada from noon until 4pm. A committal ceremony will be held at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou on the same day, Friday, July 21, 2023 at 9AM.
