Francis W. Kirkpatrick

January 21, 1931 — February 3, 2017

CARIBOU – Francis W. Kirkpatrick, 86, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017 at Caribou. Kirk, as he was known, was born in Pittston, PA, on January 21, 1931, the son of the late Frank and Ruth (Jordan) Kirkpatrick. He was a 1949 graduate of Pittston High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Air Force, and after a brief time in Colorado he transferred to Loring Air Force Base. It was in 1953, that he met Willa Doody, and they were married in 1959. He was a football enthusiast, especially when it came to the New York Giants and later the New England Patriots. He was a longtime active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where he served on the Home Interest Committee. After retirement, Kirk (with help) started the United Baptist Church food pantry in 1996. The food pantry continues to this day, and was his passion for 20 years. Mr. Kirkpatrick was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Connell and Mary Ruth Slazyk, and a brother William Kirkpatrick. Surviving in addition to his wife, Willa, of Caribou, are his daughter, Bethany Kirkpatrick, of Westbrook, two sisters, Catherine Matiko, of Leavittown, PA, and Patricia “Patsy” Evans, of Scranton, PA, two brothers, Thomas and Mikey Kirkpatrick, both of Pittston, PA, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou from 6-8pm on Monday. A celebration of his life with military honors will be held at 1pm Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from the Caribou United Baptist Church with Pastor Troy Heald and Rev. John Kiehn officiating. Interment will be in the Grimes Cemetery, Caribou. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Kirkpatrick may do so through the Caribou United Baptist Church Food Pantry. Following the service all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in the church dining hall. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at Cary Medical Center who kindly cared for Kirk these past few years.
