Eugene L. Thibodeau, Sr.

August 20, 1927 — May 19, 2021

CARIBOU – Eugene L. Thibodeau, Sr., 93, died peacefully on May 19, 2021 in Caribou after a brief illness. He was born in Bucksport, August 20, 1927, the son of the late William and Florence (Sawyer) Thibodeau. “The great thing is to see life-to understand-to feel-to work-to fight-to endure.” This is a quote by one of Gene’s favorite authors, Zane Gray. Gene endured. He worked his whole life starting at 13 to support his Mother, then his family. He served in the military during the Korean War. He settled in Caribou and was stationed at Loring Air Force Base, where he retired from the United States Air Force. He also worked in Civil Service at Loring, providing a good life and opportunities for his wife, Merline, and their 5 children. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Merline, and is survived by his son Elton and his partner Caroline of Mapleton; his son Larry and his friend Denise of Caribou; his daughter and caretaker Carla of Caribou; his son Carl of Caribou; his son David of Caribou; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gene endured and lived fully, through challenges and happiness. He is now fishing on the river – finally at peace. A private celebration of life is being held for family.
