Elery M. Walton

Elery Merle Walton died peacefully on October 1, 2022 after a long and difficult struggle with lung cancer. He was born October 16, 1936 in Caribou, the son of Hazel (King) Walton and James Walton Sr.. He attended Caribou High School and served in the U S Navy. He was employed by the Caribou Light and Water Company and was a cable man for Teleprompter TV Company. Elery was baptized at the age of twelve and was a member of the Caribou United Baptist Church.

Elery was an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours hunting in the northern Maine woods and fishing in the many lakes, rivers and streams, especially in his favorite spot - The Prestile Stream. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family. Many will remember him for the time and storytelling during gatherings at Reno’s.

Elery is survived by his son, Mark Walton of Bangor, daughters, Sherry Tovar of Port Saint Lucie, Florida and Lisa Accardi and her husband John of Lancaster New Hampshire, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, six siblings, Myrtle Spencer of Bangor, Ronald Walton of Powhatan, Virginia, Maynard Walton of Orrington, Pauline Conley of Glenburn, Judy Hanst and her husband of Waynesboro, Virginia, Lydia Dieckmann and her husband Doug of Houlton, many nephews and nieces who lovingly called him “Uncle Duck”, the children of Lolita Cyr, his special and longtime friend. He was predeceased by his sister Doris Carroll and his brothers James Walton Jr., Cecil Walton, and Lindell Walton.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Caribou and Bangor Maine Veteran’s Homes for the outstanding, compassionate care that Elery received during his stay there.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022  at 4:00 pm at the Caribou United Baptist Church with a reception for friends and family to follow.
