Eleanor Gagnon

November 6, 1921 — April 26, 2019

CARIBOU – Eleanor O. Gagnon, 97, passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 at Caribou. She was born November 6, 1921 in Grandville, NY, the daughter of the late James and Gertrude (Stoddard) Potter. Eleanor was a graduate of Black River Academy in Ludlow, VT. On June 14, 1941 she married Ludger J. Gagnon, who predeceased her in 1994. Eleanor worked for many years at American Kitchens and at MECON. She graduated from the CNA program through Caribou Adult Education at 64 years old, an accomplishment she was very proud of. Eleanor was a longtime member of the Holy Rosary Catholic, where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Daughters of Isabella. She loved cooking, and feeding everyone at large family gatherings. Eleanor also enjoyed being outside fishing, four-wheeling, and traveling.

            Eleanor is survived by seven children and their spouses, Ronald L. Gagnon and wife Nancy of Caribou, Phyllis G. Reynolds and husband Verlin, of Denham Springs, LA, Marlene G. Witherell and husband Kenneth of Claremont, NC, Linda Gagnon of Limestone, Sharon M. Bickmore and husband Marvin of Prattville, AL, Wayne M. Gagnon of Bentonville, AR, and Jean E. Nadeau and husband Richard of Connor, a sister, Ruth Harvey of N. Springfield, VT, 23 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Thomas, two sisters, and one brother.

            Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, Monday, April 29, 2019 from 6 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou. Spring interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.

            The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Cary Medical Center, who gave Eleanor such wonderful and compassionate care during her time there.
