Douglas Michaud

September 2, 1946 — June 6, 2017

CARIBOU – Douglas J. Michaud, 70, passed away June 6, 2017 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in St. Francis, September 2, 1946, the son of the late Emile and Mary Jane (Harvey) Michaud. Doug was a truck driver for over 40 years, starting his career at Cyr Brothers of Caribou, LePage Bakery of Lewiston, and McCain Transport of Easton where for the last 3 years of his career he owned and operated his own truck. He served with the US Army during Vietnam, and was an active member of the Lister-Knowlton Post 9389 VFW, and the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion. He proudly served as commander of the VFW post for 4 years, and Chaplain for both the VFW and American Legion. Mr. Michaud was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart and Holy Rosary Catholic Churches, where he served as an alter server for Masses and funerals. He was a fourth degree member of the Fred V. Brescia Council 1870 Knights of Columbus. Doug passion for country music and playing guitar led him to become a member of the Good Ole Boys group who played at many gatherings. He also became a member of the Charlene and Friends Band, and they played at many nursing homes in the area, which he truly enjoyed. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elaine (St. Pierre) Michaud of Caribou, his children of which he was very proud, a daughter, Hope Skidgel and husband Don, and their children Taylor Thibodeau, Chrissy and Taylor Skidgel all of Caribou, two sons, Kirk Michaud, and his daughter, Katelyn, both of Caribou, Jason Michaud and his wife Myranda, and their son Bailey all of Lewiston, six sisters, Emily Johnston and husband Dave, and Mary Albert all of Caribou, Nina Smith and husband Norman of Biddeford, Jeanne Downend and husband Mike of Woodland, Earleen York of VA, Christine Pelkey and husband Don of Fort Fairfield, two brothers, Paul Michaud and wife Nancy, and James Michaud and wife Rina all of Caribou, a sister-in-law, Edwina Michaud of Fort Fairfield. Mr. Michaud was predeceased by his mother in 1968, his father in 1979, two brothers, Vinal in 1968 and Hubert in 2000, two infant sisters, Beverly and Beatrice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am, Saturday, June 10, 2017, from the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church with the V. Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie officiating. Following the service, all are invited to continue a celebration of Doug’s life at the VFW Hall, Van Buren Road, Caribou. Interment will be 10am Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Northern Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Caribou.
