Caribou and Corinth Dorothy "Dot" F. Thomas, 75 passed away Monday, September 13th, 2010 in Bangor after a long illness. She was born October 28th, 1934, in Portland, the daughter of Hartford and Elizabeth (Hansen) Hunter. She was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 1953. She married Conrad Felch and she was a young widowed mother of two when she married Arthur C. Thomas, August 7, 1957. Dorothy and Arthur raised their family in Woodland (Aroostook County), for more than 20 years before moving to Charleston in 1977. Dorothy participated in the potato harvest for many years. As her children grew Dorothy volunteered as a teacher's aide and librarian, a boy scout leader, a girl scout leader and as a 4-H leader. Dorothy spent a few years as a tupperware dealer. She was an active member of several Subordinate and Pomona Granges throughout her life. Dorothy's hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking and decorating cakes for any occasion. Her hobbies won her many awards through the grange. She loved sharing her "cooking secrets" with those who wanted to listen. Dorothy could often be heard yelling Bingo at various halls across the state. Dorothy also enjoyed sending her grandson and his battlion monthly care packages as they serve our country in Afghanistan. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Phillip Hunter in 2001; her husband of fifty years, Arthur C. Thomas, in 2007. She is survived by her seven children; Henry & Leigh Felch, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Linda & Rodney Bourgine, Washburn; Allan Thomas, Caribou; Irene Thomas & Craig Kosobud, Eddington; Diane & Paul Beliveau, Gorham; Sandra Thomas, Norway; Pamela Thomas, Bangor; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; Dorothy is also survived by three brothers-in-law; Stan Thomas, Woodland; Robert & Ellie Thomas, Woodland; Charles & Shirley Thomas, Londonderry, N.H; two sisters-in-law; Emilie and Henry Martin, Stockholm; Ruth and Jared Tozier, Lynchburg, Va; and a special family friend, Edna Drake of Woodland. A graveside service will be held at the Northern Maine Veterans' Cemetery Friday September 17, 2010 at 10 o'clock,with Rev. John Kiehn, officiating. Friends are invited to gather with the family at the church following the service. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held the Bangor area at a later date.
