Donald Winston

February 28, 1940 — December 3, 2017

Caribou – Donald E. Winston, 77, died peacefully Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Caribou Nursing Home after prolonged health issues. He was born on February 28, 1940 in Burlington, Vt., the son of Beulah Kelly Winston. After graduating from Kent’s Hill and the University of Maine Presque Isle, he taught high school in Washburn and Presque Isle, followed by a tenure in the Community College system. In later years he became a licensed realtor and for 10 years successfully owned and operated Aroostook Real Estate in Presque Isle. Don had a unique enthusiasm for life and was a proficient sportsman. Though an excellent, well known horseman, his primary love was being on the water. He loved sailing the Penobscot Bay on his 28 ft. sailboat almost as much as canoeing and fishing the rivers of Aroostook County. Don is survived by his wife of 40 years, Peg (Dombroski) Winston; 2 sons, Donald and wife Dang of VA., Daniel and wife Tamera of Brooks, Me., his daughter Rene Boucher and husband Keith of Herman, Me. 3 stepchildren, Mary K. Ryan of CT., Scott Dombroski and wife Chris of CT, Jim Dombroski and wife Vanessa of NH. 10 grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Tyler Dombroski, Randy, Stephen, Connor and Bailey Dombroski, Paige, Holli and Thomas Ryan and Meghan Boucher Sinclair, and 4 great grandchildren, Dominic, Madison and Frankie James Dombroski and Madeline Renee Sinclair. Don was predeceased by a stepson Barry Dombroski. Don was very grateful for all the rides from his in-laws Wes and Sherrie Davidson, as well as fun times and many visits with special friend Bill Schofield. At Don’s request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at The Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Church, Caribou preceded by the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. Hospitality will follow at the Parish Center. Don’s family would like to especially thank the staff at the Caribou Nursing Home who so lovingly cared for him in his last days. Friends who wish to contribute in Don’s memory may do so by making a donation to the Caribou Public Library or to a charity of their choice.
