Josephine (Dodie) Olmstead

WOODLAND – Josephine “Dodie” Olmstead, passed away July 17, 2019 at the Olmstead family home in Woodland. She was born, March 19, 1927, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lula (Brown) Conroy. Dodie was raised on the family farm on the Brown Road in Woodland. She worked at Birdseye, catered with Donna Cochran, and was a cook at the Woodland School for 20 years. She married her first and only boyfriend, Dale, on August 24, 1944. She always told her children that “he was the only boyfriend I ever had.” They were members of the First Baptist church of Woodland for 50 years and more recently attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Westfield. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was in the mission circle, and served on several boards within the church. She took great pride in her gardening skills – and canned and froze food for her family. She will be remembered as an awesome cook. Dodie is survived by her husband of 75 years, Dale Olmstead, two sons, Dale Jr., and wife Bobbie of Standish, Michael and wife Lora of FL, three daughters, Diane and husband Jim Cross of TN, Jean Michaud of Woodland, and Beth Begin and husband Dennis of RI, her grandchildren, Jimmy and Billy Cross, Eddie, Kristofer, Joy, Michael, Todd, Brandi, and David Michaud, Tyler, Joshua and Connor Strom, Michael, Craig, and Ross Olmstead, David and Matthew Begin, great-grandchildren, Molly, Jack, Taylor, Lauren, Cayden, and Chloe Michaud, Emily Golding, Amanda Olmstead, and Ayla Begin, great-great-grandchildren, Alana and Bella Olmstead. In addition to her parents, Dodie was predeceased by her siblings, Dorothy Monson, Mable Gilman, Leola Ouellette, Ethel Lovely, Peter and Ralph Conroy, a granddaughter, Angel Michaud, a son-in-law, Edward Michaud, and three great-grandchildren, Clay and Lane Golding, and Bryce Michaud. Funeral services will be conducted at a future date and time to be announced by the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Aroostook House of Comfort, and the home care nurses and aids who helped them tremendously during her last months.
