Clayton Demerchant

PORTAGE LAKE – Clayton M. DeMerchant, 84, passed away August 16, 2019 at Presque Isle following a brief illness. He was born November 7, 2934 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Maurice and Lillian (Daigle) DeMerchant. Clayton married Melvina Richards on May 5, 1962, and she predeceased him in 2008. He served in the United States Navy for over 22 years, including service during Vietnam and Korea. “Pops” as he was affectionately known, is survived by two daughters, Terriann DeMerchant and Jessie White, both of Portage Lake, two sons, Stephen Sanders of Denver, CO, and Gene Sanders of San Diego, CA, a brother, Earlin DeMerchant of Presque Isle, two sisters, Dallas Belanger of Presque Isle and Lucille DeMerchant of AZ, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, and nephews. In addition to his wife, and parents, Clayton was predeceased by two daughters, Sheila Barnes, and Vickie Urquhart. A graveside service with military honors were held 1 pm, Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou, with Rev. Ron Rosser officiating.
