Delmer Maxwell

November 20, 1949 — January 9, 2017

WASHBURN and CARIBOU - Delmer Maxwell Sr., 67, died January 9, 2017 in Caribou, Maine from complications to on-going health problems resulting from a tragic motorcycle accident in 2010. 'Del' was born November 20, 1949 to Sanger Maxwell and Blanche (Lagasse) Maxwell in Caribou. He grew up on the family farm, now the Caribou Country Club, and graduated from Caribou High School. He served his country in 1969, in Da Nang, Vietnam as a member of the 3rd Marines, 2nd Batallion, Platoon 286 where he received a Purple Heart award for being wounded in combat. He was known to his fellow Marines as Moon Dog. Living most of his adult life in Washburn, 'Big Pin' as he was affectionately known, surrounded himself with family and friends from the Gardner Creek and beyond. He worked hard for Howard Farms as a potato truck driver for years, a job he enjoyed very much. He was an avid collector of odd & unusual items and antiques, and he loved fishing, snowmobiling, NASCAR, the Celtics, four-wheeling, country music and classic rock, cannabis, and being a free spirited hippy. He is survived by a son, Delmer Maxwell Jr, daughter Amanda Maxwell, four grandchildren, Rebecca Maxwell, Rachel Maxwell, Jonathan Grant, and Brianna Corey, one soon-to-be great-grandchild Avahlynn Grant, and three sisters, Shirley Pelkey, Nancy Kummer, and Claudine Olmstead, and his special friend of almost 30 years, Phyllis Forgue. He also leaves behind his best friend, the ever-faithful Sheeba, American Staffordshire Terrier. Delmer is predeceased by many siblings and half-siblings. Interment will be at the Veteran's Cemetery in Caribou, this spring. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Delmer Maxwell, please visit our flower store.
