Caribou and Van Buren – Daniel N. Martin, 73, passed away February 28, 2019 at Caribou. He was born in Caribou, March 23, 1945, the son of Nelson and Laurina (Soucie) Martin. Mr. Martin was predeceased by his parents, a son Terry, and a brother Donald in 2012. He is survived by a daughter Keilie Martin of Ellington, CT., granddaughters Ashley and Natalie Martin of Van Buren, a niece Teasha Martin of CT., a nephew Aron Martin and his fiancé, Sherri Michaud of Caribou. Mr. Martin attended Caribou schools, and received his GED from Van Buren High School and served with the US Navy during Vietnam, and was a member of the Levasseur-Farrell Post 19, Levasseur-Farrell American Legion Post #49 in Van Buren. He was a talented singer and musician. He started to play music at the age of 12 with the Stardusters. He played music all over Aroostook County and Canada with the Honky Tonks, the Buckeneers, and other bands. He was a volunteer firefighter for Van Buren for many years, was a truck driver for Albert Farms where his CB handle was Bassman, and was also employed at Loring AFB until its closure. Military honors will take place at a later date at the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery.
