Clarence Plourde, 95, was born April 27, 1924 on the family homestead in North Caribou, to Odile (Castonguay) and Alec Plourde. He was the youngest and last living in a family of seven siblings. On March 25, he passed in his dearly loved home in the care of his daughters.
Clarence is survived by his daughters Susie Plourde and Carol Wolfington of Sacramento, California, step daughter Madeleine Mazerolle (Robert) of Burlington, Connecticut, their children Brian (Leigh), Mandy (Dominic) and their grandchildren Tracy, Tim, Eloise and Hazel Rose. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, many who worked seasonally on the family farm.
He is predeceased by his wife, Juliette (Perreault) whom he married on February 25, 1954. They remained on the farm together almost 66 years. He is predeceased by sisters Dorothy Plourde, Leola Taylor, Bernice Plourde, Irene Lazure, of Bradenton, Florida and brothers Emery and Clifford of Caribou.
Clarence served in Okinawa at the end of WWII and enjoyed the military, but returned to help on the farm. He loved farming and was passionate about his potato crops, and in the earlier years, the farm animals and work that went into their care. He was a good steward of his land with well groomed fields, impeccably kept grounds and buildings, and he planted trees in a marshy area which are now beautiful 60 year specimens. He was a fine, decent man of character and enjoyed his work around the farm many years after retirement.
People he employed have fond memories of working for the family. All workers were respected as they were considered a vital part of the family business. With his wife, Juliette, they created an atmosphere where hard work was to be enjoyed.
He was a member of the American Legion and life member of Lister Knowlton VFW of Caribou.
The Plourde family is hopeful that a funeral mass, fellowship, and burial will be possible at the Parish of the Precious Blood Sacred Heart once the current world conditions have abated.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the caregivers over the past several years as well as Northern Light Hospice for their tender care and compassion.
