Caribou – Chester “Chet” H. Milton, 98, died after a brief illness January 26, 2022 in Caribou. Mr. Milton was born in Woodland November 21, 1923 the son of the late Guy and Lillian (Holts) Milton. He graduated from Caribou High School and joined the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Upon return from the service, he later became a self-employed burner man, and many relied on him day or night and usually on the coldest of days.
Chet was a member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389.
He had a love for flying, whether it was in a hot air balloon, paragliding, or in a plane. After his "Dreamflight" experience, he said it was surreal and he was able to forget everything back on Earth. He didn't want it to end.
Mr. Milton married Mary Nadeau and she predeceased him in 2004. He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Coleman of West Jefferson, Ohio, and Sharon DeMerchant and husband David of Presque Isle, one son, Steven Milton and wife Lou-Ann of Poland, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held in the spring.
