Our daddy, Chester Gage, found his greatest peace on September 24, 2021, when he passed from this life at the Borderview Nursing Home in Van Buren, Maine. Surrounded by his beloved wife and children, Chester Gage joined other family and friends that have gone before us. We are so blessed to have been able to hold his hand in his peaceful journey.
A quiet, gentle soul that loved his family fiercely, Chester lived a full life as a husband, father, grampy, father-in-law, uncle, son, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend. He was born October 19, 1944 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Russell and Dorothy (Parson) Gage. He was a graduate of Dedham High School in 1962 and attended the University of New Hampshire where he received his Associates Degree in Forestry. In 1968, he moved to Caribou and began a 33-year career as a Forester for the State of Maine where he made many life-long friendships. He ended his career as Consultant Forester working ten years for many wonderful families on their woodlots. Chester was a true conservationist with an unmatched love for creation and a heart that preserved much of the beauty that people enjoy in Aroostook County.
Chester was predeceased by his mother and father, his brothers Peter and Russell, his sister-in-law Mary, two nieces and a nephew. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlene (Day), his son Adam and daughter-in-law, Julie; daughter Heather and son-in-law Mike Murray; his beautiful granddaughters – his greatest joy – Olivia and Sadie; brother David and sister-in-law Mary Lou, sister Nancy (Clemens), sister-in-law Gloria, several special nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by many fishing buddies and high school classmates whom he cherished.
Chester enjoyed two hobbies in his life - fishing and oil painting. He took great pleasure in sharing both with family and friends. He would often organize canoeing and fishing trips with his loved ones throughout the County where he laughed and made so many special memories. In 2005, he built an art studio and took great pride in inviting friends to see his paintings and talk about what inspired him.

Friends and family may visit together at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, 10 am - 12 pm, Wednesday September 29, 2021. A short celebration of life will follow at 12 pm - which will be livestreamed on the Mockler Funeral Home website.
